ROWAN FOLEY
Heart of Glass
October 2022
Letting Go, oil on canvas, 36”x44”
Heart of Glass explores Rowan’s growth into maturity and her stylistic journey as an artist. It is a search for the evolution of innocence in a world where mistrust and uncertainty is king.
In this exhibition, she explores the tension between desire and fear and the ever-changing roles of hunter and hunted. It is, in essence, an attempt to understand love and the struggle of retaining identity in a consuming world.

Trapped by Your Love, charcoal on paper, 60”x40”
The struggle to define self is echoed in the stylistic progression of the show as well. Starting with the control of the Rembrandt Master Copy, a piece that requires no personal perspective, to the loose and emotional Letting Go, created without reference and entirely from her inner dialogue, the pieces become freer and more introspective as she looks deeper into her subconscious.

"I aim to create work that is not only beautiful but is also deeply personal and vulnerable."
The Hawk, oil pastel on wood board, 72”x48”
“I believe that through vulnerability, art can tap into a universality of experiences that is profoundly moving, and I am constantly searching for that depth through my work.”
